My parent’s wedding story

My parents, Maria and Costas, first had a civil marriage on 1997 and then got married on July 9^th 2007 in a church. My parents got married on a Greek island called Sifnos in a church near the sea. They choose that location because they fell in love with it when they visited the island many years before I was born.  They knew each other for more than 10 years and they met in Cyprus.

When my parents had their church wedding, my dad’s best friend came and his wife Mrs. Andre, and their two daughters Monica and Miranda. My mum’s best friends were invited as well, Mrs. Vasso and Mrs. Vicky.

It is a Greek tradition the father of the bride to take her to the church. My grandfather was too old to travel so my dad’s best friend took my mother to the church. My dad was waiting outside the church with a small bouquet of flowers. My dad led my mum into the church and they stood in the middle of the church and the ceremony started. An old priest did all the wedding ceremony. I and Miranda were holding the candles, standing on either side of my parents. The ceremony was simple but was very elegant.

The church was built on the edge of a cliff with the sea surrounding it on three sides. The church was more than 200 years old and quiet small, the chandelier was shaped as a boat, because the people who built it were sailors. My mum was not wearing a wedding dress but a beautiful white dress. My dress and Miranda’s were specially made by a designer; they were the same but different colors. My parents didn’t have the traditional wedding rings but they made two rings with antique stone in gold. At the end of the ceremony as a tradition we threw rice to the sweet couple and my mum threw the bouquet which Vasso got it and as they say she was the next to get married (unfortunately not yet).

Later on when the ceremony finished we went back to the hotel where we where staying. There we had a dinner party on the veranda overlooking the sea. The food was cooked by my mum’s best friend Vicky who is a chef. There was a lot of Champaign and my parents gave to the guests as for remembering the wedding and the deep blue sea a small souvenir made out of silver and blue glass which is said for good luck.

I was very lucky to be present at my parent’s wedding and to be one of their bridesmaids. You will see the surprise on my face on the photo. It was a fantastic experience for me whom I will never forget and I thank my parents who gave me the chance to be part of a beautiful ceremony.

The Year of the Dog

1. Cultural Trait: Lissy had a pain on her neck because she slept on the floor. Her grandma painted with a spiecial brush and black paint from special stones, a tiger and a pig. The tiger was chasing after the pig and all this running would massage the neck and make it feel better.
2. Cultural Diffusion: Wedding dress, wedding cake and bridesmaids. This you can find in any wedding ceremonie. However there are also specific wedding customes in different countries.
3. Cultural Diversity: Grace's grandma wanted her mother how to learn to play piano. Piano as a music instrument was first used in Europe. Slowly, slowly people in other continents started playing piano. It was something that reached people used to have because it was very difficult and hard to find a piano and very expensive to buy one.

        The house of the piano teacher, where my mother was having her lessons was an       

        American style house, the whole house was decorated with the finest furniture from

        Europe as well as lots of porcilain boxes and ivory glass vases.

Culture name

My name is Emilia. Some people call me Emi or Emily. The origin of my name is Greek and it means, friendly or soft. Emilia was a greek saint and she was the mother of saint Basil the Great. We celebrate my nameday on the 30th of May.
Like all the other babies my parents chose this name for me. It was the name of my mum's Auntie who was married with my grandfather's brother. My parents were very close with Auntie Emilia and they also liked the name very much, thats why they gave me that name.
I like my name because of how it sounds when they call me.
I am very lucky to have this name because there are so many similar names people can call me. Like Emma, Emily, Lily, Emi. To tell you the truth my favourite name is when my dad calls me Emiloushka.
When I grow up and have my own children and if its a boy I will name him Andre or Danial and if it's a girl I will name her Cleo or Costantina(after my dad.)
Did you know that many Polish Queens and Princesses have had this rare name(I found this from the internet. REAL)

Culture trait: Is an activity or behaviour in which people often take part. For example, England, India, Australia like playing cricket.

Culture region: Is an area in which people have many culture traits. For example, across Southwest of Asia and North Africa most people speak Arabic and they are mouslim. Another example is that Italy, Spain, France and Greece are using a lot of olive oil in their food(s).

 Ethnic group: Is a group of people who share a common culture and ancestry. For example more than 100 ethnic groups live in the East African country of Tanzania.

Cultural diversity: Is the state of having a varaity of cultures in the same area.

Cultural diffusion: Is the spread of culture traits from one region to another.
